PEO TV get your act together...

It looks like PEO TV is concentrating on more local channel launching than international ones. That is not a bad move, if you have covered the basic international channels such as ESPN Star channels, AXN, Hallmark, Cartoon Network, ect but these are not on as yet and unless these channels come aboard PEO will have a hard time.

PEO TV is using existing infrastructure for channel delivery and do not have to spend too much money on delivery infrastructure so they must focus more on new channel additions but it seems that the management at PEO do not know this. In a few months it will be an year since PEO TV was launched and still the lack of the basic channnels will begin to have an effect on its subscriber base. PEO should also organise more packages since on the long run PEO TV seems more expensive than their rival Sri Lankan operators. The A- La - Carte should be offered with more effective packages.

if PEO had charged Rs. 600 for TSTV would anyone just pay that amount for 8 channels which include 2 news channels?????????????? I do not see it as a good idea...

As a documentary film lover I would love to have "Animal planet" in peotv. I wonder why they haven't included in the current lineup. Its from Discovery network as well.

Any insight guys?

Despite all the publicity, it appears that the quality of service of PEO TV is beginning to decline sharply. The programs of BBC Entertainment were stopped abruptly and PEO hasn't had the decency to inform it's customers the reason for the stoppage and when if ever they would be re-started.
To make matters worse, the quality of transmission too is beginning to deteriorate. The message 'Waiting Signal' is becoming very common especially in the evenings and nights.
Come on PEO TV do not let your customers down !!

I totally agree with you kayhaytha, just like the Soda bottle it pop's then goes flat its so sad Srilankan's are suppose to be customer oriented people,it looks like another disaster pay TV.Will not recommend >>>>>>poor

hi, if some one try to sell your used idling DTV connection due to shift to PEOTV, please could you contact 77 358 0009 ASAP. Thank you

i called them and asked about animal planet. they said they are planing to launch them (animal planet, axn, hallmark... i'm nt sure whether this is credible info cause they seem to say yes to everything smtimes). anyway they are nt sure of a date. when i asked within 6 months ? they were nt sure.. bt within 1 year they said they can (once again i dnt trust them too much).. anyway the thing is if ur considering PeoTv, the distance frm the exchange. if ur too far away u may experience signal losses. better get a router that can measure line properties and check the line b4, Attainable Line rate is recommended to be over 6000, and lower the attenuation the better (i dono wht values are the best, but for wht i've read so far attenuation atleast below 50db will be ok.. i hv 55db and there are probs with the connection)

Conny said...

what Supun sayin is correct... Peo is doing nothing for customers...It seems that customers were only taken for a ride by showing that Rewind TV thing... Yeh, we can now understand that PEO is on rewind now, goin back without doing any good.

PEO CEO has said that ppl don't want new channels but quality channels.does that mean that there would not be any new channel in the future , will Star Sports stay in the upcoming channels list of the PEO web site forever?????? Also I ask what is the quality of WINE TV, WEDDING TV, LUXE TV, etc?????

ravana said...

hi,
yes agrred for 50%,but as a customer for DTV so long and now Peo tv, my feeling is peo tv is much better than DTV craps.
***if you take a channel like euro sport it has all the varieties.for example last two weeks it shows wonderfull volly ball matcheds and athletic tours.there are no any cahnnel showing such .
aprogrammes.if you take DTv its all cricket
***a agree with wine and wedding and luxe, even they fooled us with Lakroo.but its diffrent it has its unique channels.personnaly i feel 75% channels in other sat providers are nothing do with srilankan audience.if you take fox crime in DTv audience rating much below 0.2,after your took all the information all the sat customers are oftenly watch with in 14channel parameter.that mean only 14 channel has more than 1 ratings.

ravana said...

my suggetion is SLT must go with few good quality channels and not go for the few commons.

for the technical thing even with all the problems PEO is much better than DTV.as per the SLT the distance problem will sort in with in 1 year.
i dont thin therer no any new channle for the PEO for next two months

Nipun said...

I dnt think they can do nything about the distance prob man.. attenuation results mainly because of distance and u cnt do anything about it.. the infrastructure we have here is not good enough for a successful IPTV broadcast i guess. bt if ur close enough to the exchange then no prob. bt i guess they have their own broadcast issues as well, sm of the "waiting signal" occurences i figured were broadcast probs, hopefully they fix those.

When it comes to channels they MUST have animal planet, axn and hallmark which dialog already offers.. if they go for too long without such channels then its too bad for them.

nd it'll be great if they can include Discovery, Nat geo etc. in TSTV

The prob with Peo TV is they are slow.. for them to keep up (to catch up rather) with Dialog they need pick up their pace

Unknown said...

Sure they should be getting new channels, atleast those that are already offered by dialog but I feel that there is a variety altogether....LakRoo is a good one...YATV is another one....

I am a customer who shifted from DTV to PeoTV. I do not regret my decision. Overall, PeoTV is way better in picture quality and service levels, compared with DTV.

DTV is very poor in customer service and those who are in the company thinks that they are all knowing and all powerful over the customers. MPEG2 to 4 conversion never happened and I don’t see DTV adding real value to the customers on improving the quality of service (QoS). DTV also can bring in limited time shift and recording facilities to compete with PeoTV, but they will not. They will never listen to their customers. So, I shifted to PeoTv and I think I did the right thing. QoS is quite high, there is a variety of channels even though few necessary channels are lacking and IPTV is anyway, the next generation service.

However, it is not all that flowery with PeoTV too. PeoTV has a lot of options on their plate and they are slow to take initiatives as I would see it. They definitely need new channels added. Cartoon Network and Boomerang (classic toons) are must! Apart from that, AXN, Animal Planet, Si-Fi channel, MTV (Europe) and MTV2, Super Sports series, Fox Crime would give PeoTv an edge over DTV.

I also don’t understand as to why they cannot add few good English and Sinhalese movies to the PeoTV on demand services. The crap there is not appealing and it is just a waste of servicing space which can work to attract new customers. Management must see these things and act fast. Faster they act the better.

These pay TV companies must tell their customers as to what is coming in the future. They might not happen, but its okay to let your customers know what the plans are. PeoTV started doing that but now, the website does not get updated. They must give a time line on VoD services, increasing the channel numbers etc, so the customers would have some idea as to what they will get in the future. Keeping them in the dark like DTV would do is the way to make your customers feel that it is time to shift (Mind you, there are number of Indian providers with high QoS levels!).

PeoTV does not have to give anything for free. They can charge a reasonable fee. This would increase revenues of the company and contribute to improve the bottom line too. They just need to be more creative!

I believe PeoTV will overtake DTV. But Peo people will have to work a bit more to let that happen. I don’t think PeoTV is on the rewind. It is DTV who have betrayed the loyalty of the CBN Sat customers. It is DTV who cheated us with cheap decoders claiming MPEG 4 conversion. It is DTV who took away the ownership of the equipment given to us by CBN Sat, in disguise of providing new equipment.

I believe PeoTV is the way to go. But PeoTV guys will have to work to satisfy the customers and deliver a good service.

Yes DTV sux!!!!!!! Only problem with peo is they are very slow to take actions. This is a problem with their mother company SLT and mobitel too!!!!!!
isn't it?

Unknown said...

Probably they are slow to give a Big Surprise!! :D... More than the channels hope they come up with some good movies... better to have some decent Sinhala movies in the VOD store...

poor_creature_hurt said...

PeoTV has a good platform. They need to improve the quality of their infrastructure. The massage "Waiting for Signal" is coming quite too often now than earlier. This is BAD. But they can and I hope will rectify this fast.

I repeat, that we need few quity channels. That's it. No,we do not need all the channels in the world. Channels such as Cartoon network and Boomerang, maybe AXN, MTV (English), MTV2, MGM Movies, Si-Fi etc would be hie.

I don't think that SLT has any reason to delay VoD services. Please give us some good movies there.

Peo can easily attract new customers if those few things are in place fast.

PEO Tv has only 1 tamil channel. Why they can't add few more?

They have 3 hindi channel which is more than tamil channels.

Baddegama is there in the Sinhala movie category...

a message appeared just few minutes back on Ten Sports, saying that TEN SPORTS will be moving into MPEG-4 from August and that all cable operators should replace the existing STBs with new ones to enable the viewing of Ten Sports channel....

Is the existing STB of PEO TV is MPEG-4 Supportive???? somebody please explain...

Nipun said...

yah it is MPEG-4 supportive

poor_creature_hurt said...

Finally, Peo TV has gone and added “Baddegama” and “Gahanu Lamai” in the VoD. Now, I hope they would not go into winter hibernation thinking that they have their good deed and afford to rest. The industry does not work like that and PeoTV needs to understand the industry reality. I am sure that they do understand and would act accordingly.

I suggest that PeoTV add one Sinhala, one Tamil and one English movie to their VoD each week. If there are royalty issues, they can make them “this week’s special” and remove later. That way, PeoTV becomes more attractive to the new customers. Peo can do so much and its about time that they should start now.

More Tamil channels are also a must, to keep inline with the requests of our Tamil brothers and sisters. If PeoTV can get its basic channel mix right (Cartoon network, Boomerang, AXN, Hallmark, Net Geo Wild / Animal Planet, ESPN, Start Cricket, MTV (English), MTV2 and possibly Bloomberg), VoD services active and give time shift to some movie channels, well, I don’t think that they would need to advertise to attract new customers.

The deal is simple. Give more to the customers and more customers will you get!

poor_creature_hurt said...

Guys,

I think we need to put collective pressure on PeoTV to come up with new things.

While I would always take the side of PeoTV in comparison with DTV, we need to ensure that we get what we need from them too. Collective pressure would always be a good thing for us as the customers as well as PeoTV to improve as a service.

Thus, let's keep this discussion alive and get them to listen to our opinion.

Conny said...

@ Deshal,

Great idea.. I agree with you.. as customers we need to get what we want. we should definitely keep this discussion alive.what else could we do????

ETONEGATE said...

Please direct us what to do???

kayhaytha said...

Deshal, I am with you. I suggest that we first identify the shortcomings, then prioritize them and convey our suggestions as a group to PEO TV

Shortcomings
[1] 'Waiting Signal' occurring frequesntly
[2] Pixelation
[3] Poor selection of VoD. (Maybe PEO should have 2 sets of VoD's - one free and the other at a reasonable cost)

Anything else ?

poor_creature_hurt said...

Hi Guys,

I agree, we need to understand what we need at first. So let’s put all our needs together. Once they are in place, we can communicate to the management of PeoTV and ask them to indicate us clearly as to when can we expect these things to happen.

After all, we are doing something good for PeoTV. We are creating a loyalty group for PeoTV, with the idea of improving the customer satisfaction.

I would like to suggest the following steps for improving PeoTV services:

1. Add new channels (CN, Boomerang, AXN, Max, Sci-fi, ESPN, Star Cricket, Animal Planet, Nat Geo Wild, MTV – English-, MTV2 etc).

2. Add at least one Sinhala, English, Tamil and possibly Hindi (I am not a big fan but I guess it will balance things) movie to the VoD weekly.

3. Give trick play ability to more channels.

4. Improve the infrastructure so the annoying “waiting for signal” massage would not appear.

We will not ask them to do these things immediately. But they must tell us as to what is happening and what we can look forward to! I guess as loyal customers, we have that right!

Please guys, write in with your suggestions too. We will compile them to a single post and post it as a single post in almost all blogs on PeoTV and email to the management direct as well. Please keep on writing and suggesting new ideas.

What about tamil channels on PEO TV? We want tamil channels.

Hi..!

(1)ppl what abt hindi MTV & Nickelodeon? .Its just ridiculous . In SL is there any fan for hindi cartoons ? (obviously there a lot of hindi film fans, but cartoons :O?). y this SLT ppl cant understand that ?

(2)Peo tv really need another 4-5 new channels else i don't think there a future 4 peotv :(. look@ dialog tv even its has signal problems they a introduce more channels.

(3)ppl wht u a think abt wedding tv & wine tv ? is there any fan 4 those channels ? y SLT ppl cant remove those channels and introduce new watchable channels ?

Unknown said...

Hi All!....
There should be a channel with Hindi songs....just to spice-up things :)....
People can comment pretty rougly on Bollywood masala but still everyone do enjoy watching those colorful fairy-tale-like clips!...So I feel better to have an ONLY SONGS channel.....there are lot of fans for songs n music afterall!

Conny said...

my suggestions for improvement of PEO TV.

1.wine tv, wedding tv are useless channels... people will fall sick if they watch weddings and how to make wine 24*7 :O .. ( these channels would have been added in order to make a the channel line up bigger) PEO should replace these two channels with some quality channels, either tamil or hindi which a need exists for such channels...

2. PEO should bring a solution to the 'waiting signal' problem. it happens very often and and the STB has to be rebooted to solve it and if someone was in the middle of watching a past program ( TSTV ), ohhh, that is terrible, everything has to be done all over again...
PEO should look into this problem soon.

3. The STB becomes non-responsive sometimes ( not the waiting signal problem ). I do not know if it is a problem of the STB or the remote but the STB has to be switched off and plugged in again to make it working...and then should wait for another 2 minutes for the STB to load.... this is so irritating.. PEO should look into this too.

4. New channels should be added. these should include few new sports channels, popular cartoon channels ( CN, boomerang ), channels like AXN, Fox Crime, FX, etc.
PEO should also look to introduce few unique channels which may not be available with the DTH providers in this region in order to promote the product.

Thumbs up for C MUSIC. A great music channel which has a good mix of music anytime of the day... I love it a lot..

Unknown said...

Too much of anything is bad enough.....and anyone surely would not want to keep watching 24x7 making wine! :D.....but it is okay to have a bit of variety...wedding and wine TV channels are definitely obsessed with one theme and that's what makes the difference...I dont see it fair to remove those two channels and add in more familiar channels.....but surely PEOTV should have more channels in.....

Before introducing new packages in a bid to attract new subscribers, PEO TV should make a determined effort to retain it's existing subscriber base. PEO TV does not realize the dissatisfaction that is beginning to creep in among it's subscribers due to the 'WAITING SIGNAL' problem. The 'RAIN FADE' problem experienced by DTV subscribers is nothing compared to the hell experienced due to weak signals by PEO TV.

It is a relief for the customers to know that PEO is listening.

Hay guys... I have some problems with my Peotv connection. One thing is the famous "waiting signal" we all have.

Another problem which I'm having is after some time (abt an hour or so) pictures become crappy. It's like Pixellation kinda thing. (Like playing a old VCD or partially downloaded video) After I restart the router its getting back to normal. Any idea?

Madhawa said...

I didn't see Defender's post. Seems like getting stuck after one hour is common for all. :(

Tharanga Perera said...

Ya true. There is no way..You have to restart it again..I hate It.

kayhaytha said...

Madhawa
I have had the 'pixelation' problem described by you for the last 6 months. PEO TV sent many teams of technicians to resolve the problem including a team of Engineers at night (when the problem becomes worse), but they were unable to solve it. All they did was replace all wiring from the main road right upto the Router and the STB. They even replaced the router 4 times and the STB 3 times. I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM.
I have also started having the 'Waiting Signal' problem and the 'Non-responsive STB' problem for the last 3 months. Again PEOTV does not appear to have the solutions to these problems.
Watching PEO TV is definitely not a pleasant experience in my household - it is annoying, frustrating and anger-provoking.
During the last T20 match, i got the 'waiting signal' message every 2 minutes while the match was in progress. You can imagine what that did to my high blood pressure.
I am beginning to believe that PEO TV does not possess the technical skills and the financial muscle required to operate and maintain an IPTV system.
I am seriously contemplating switching back to Dialog TV. The recent PEO TV advertisement about their new packages which proudly states 'no rain fade' problems is a joke. At least in the case of DTV we can expect disruptions during bad weather conditions. In the case of PEO TV, there are unexpected disruptions during ALL TIMES OF THE DAY/NIGHT AND DURING ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS.

I'm a new customer for Peo TV. I got this for free. I not pay any amount for the Peo TV connection. I just have the typical SLT land phone.

Now a days Peo TV connection is very much in good quality. I never think I'll get this much of quality and never waiting for waiting for signals.

Service of the maintenance staff is very much good and they doing there job in well. But the staff in the SLT Teleshop and Regional B ranchers They think they are the super people and they taking so much time for the small things.
