Is there any news on Disney Channels?
It looks like there is no SLT guys in this blog to answere questions here.
look like disney channel will be activated next few days. apart from that i see more channels been added with out names on it
Guys, what do you think of PEOs production readiness. I've used both PEO (trial) and DTV. I think DTV is far ahead in terms of quality of experience and getting what users are told they'd get.
The points I wish to highlight are
1. Set-top-box and Remote (PEO's remote and STB, freezes at times, cannot change channels or even switch off, you have to physically power cycle the STB)
2. There are NO real VODs (only some music and other clips, including 1 teledrama)
3. Timeshift is only for local channels and couple of news channels
4. Interactive TV, navigation is not user friendly, some edutainments options don't work.
5. Quality, is generally on par with DTV
6. There is an irritating response lag on the remote (compared to DTV).
7. Programming Information is not available for most channels (makes an appearance once in a while). You would not know what you are watching, what is next etc etc. unless the channel itself tells you.
8. PEO billing is a mess, I was bill three months even though I was on trial, even after repeated calls to SLT billing.
I don't see how anyone can be expected to buy PEO with all these issues.
Worst of all PEO marketting does not seem too interested in fixing these and believe they are ready for live broadcasting.
in addition, SLT replaces your router with their own (whether you like it or not). So if you already have a router that goes waste or if you have a wireless router you need to reconfigure it to access through SLTs own. But it is possible to configure most good routers (including wireless) with SLT's IPTV settings, but SLT will not support/recommend it.

Quality wise SLT is the no. 01. Voice, Data & even TV. In current India vs. Sri Lanka 5 match ODI series, Dialog was the internet & wi-fi service provider for grounds. After the first 2 matches SL Cricket has turn back to SLT to provide the service. Due to the fact of Dialog internet was performing poorly & well below standards.
I agree with Big. Quality wise no one can match Sri Lanka Telecom. in terms of Voice, Data/Internet even IPTV. Recently I have the chance to experience IPTV. Its superb. Dialog can't match that. If SLT can do some pricing revisions to it's product portfolio, SLT will powerfully dominate the market.
IPTV, yes, I did - it was not a very fruitful exercise, SLT is not bothered to improve. I also have doubts on sustainability of IPTV, may be I'm over reacting. (I was a COMET subscriber earlier). And as for IPTV quality against DTV, I still stick to my comment that they are on par (both have similar compression artifacts at high frame change rates).
Big and Ramani, I was purely commenting on IPTV and NOT VOICE OR DATA quality of SLT, which I cannot comment on as I have not personnaly used VOICE (fixed wireline) or ADSL other than SLT!

Why are you getting panic? I just ask a question on information i got fromother test guys. Anyway i signed up with Peo promotion. There are issues what you mensined but not in the scale you say. Configuration of the router is a simple task and if you want you can use their 4 port router too.
Any product take some time to get mature and even Dialog is updating software to give the best. Its normal in any tech product. You know howmany upate you get for MS products....
IPTV, I purely stated my experience with PEO (the scale is a relative measure), no offence.
In addition I agree with IPTV in that 'Any product take some time to get mature', which brings us back to my original question. Do you think PEO is ready for commerical use?

as i said earlier, there are issues with it, but OK for going to market and better than Airtel Which boast of simple plans but does not have coverage outside Colombo. Its par below than what Mobitel did in may be 2002/3
again IPTV, PEO is misleading customers, for e.g. they say VOD is free for a year or so but they don't have any real VODs. And what about 'trickplay' do they have trickplay for all channels?
I agree that SLT should focus on their pricing revisions. I feel that SLT is bit expensive compare to other operators. I invite 'Umesha' to have some experience of SLT voice & Internet services. IPTV also.....lets give it a chance!!!!
apologies for the complex negation in my earlier statement - I meant I ONLY use SLT for VOICE and DATA. I have no hesitation in saying I'm totally satisfied with those two (but remember Wireline DSL and VOICE are monopolies).
globaly....i believe payed TV, whether it is digital or IP or whatever, is loss ventures. It says Dialog TV will reach its break even point some where around 400,000 units. But still the Half way mark also miles away. And there been in the business around 2 years & still struggling. For SLT PEO TV also the same story. It will be even verse than Dialog. Quality wise PEO TV stands ahead, but will it be a good profit center for SLT?? Only it will be available for closely 1 million of SLT PSTN lines users. No doubt about SLT product quality.(Voice, Internet, IPTV) Its the best. But still I feel SLT is very arrogant in terms of adopting to market changes & customization. e.g. - If you want SLT ADSL connection, just the ADSL connection.....yet SLT has no solution for that....Phone line is mandatory. Still SLT has no proper Wireless solutions. And SLT rentals & charges also very high comapare to other network operators. Quality will be compromised to price in current bad economic state.
PEO TV marketing is not good at all. Having just 1 package won't take them anywhere. They must come up with some different packages in order to cater different segments. And VOD & TSTV is still not properly communicated to market. If PEO TV is some thing more than a TV, SLT & SLT Vision com should behave like that. Honestly PEO TV marketing penetration strategies are very poor.
Channels like 'Discovery' is a mandatory channel. It should be in the base package. Not having the 'Cartoon Network' also a big disadvantage.
Well, I will be optimistic about PEO TV. It won't reach its break even for another......I don't know. However IPTV is the future & really proud about that SLT launched it.
Reliance also coming to Sri Lanka in this year, & TELCO competition will increase more & more & making the industry less sustainable & less feasible. In order SLT to continue its current good financial stability, it should again go to customer. Offer waht customers want, not what company designs. Customization is a must. If its adopt to market changes & initiate good pricing strategies plus proper customization, SLT can be the real No. 01

Are you apearing for Dialog. It talks about Dialog 24 hrs 1000 minuts free for Dialog in Blaster but very silent on Mobitel being free for All fixed lines as well as Mobitel. This is a wrong comparison and Both Dialog Blaster and Airtel offers cannot be compared witH Upahara. In addition, the coverage wise Mobitel and Dialog are neck to neck and cannot grumble.

Hi! everyone, It SLT has reduced the the pricing for existing ADSL broadband packages. And SLT has introduced 04 new ADSL broadband packages also. They launched them today.....19/02/2009.
yep. 4 Mbps also among them. As I heard 02 packages with static IP's. I'm thinking of upgrading to 1 Mbps package.
