hii.. this is my first post in this blog. i've been a DTV user for a long time (since it was CBNSat). But now i'm thinking of getting a PEOTV instead.
any downsides to this move, as PEOTv users plz help!!
thnks
@ yakuza,
I also did the same thing and I have not regretted my decision for following reasons:
1. I value the picture quality. DTV was going to introduce mpeg4 conversion to improve picture quality which never happened. PEO picture quality is definitely better than DTV.
2. PEO customer support is definitely better than DTV. If there is a problem, they would genuinely try to help you. They have the technical knowledge required as well.
3. Even though progress is slow, they try to venture into new territory (well they definitely can do more with IPTV). Adding Time Shift to new channels etc.
4. They tend to listen to us more than DTV. When they posted an ugly logo on the screen, we really put pressure on the company and they removed the logo. I have tried this with DTV and they will not care us for two cents.
5. Future potential of IPTV is immense. Within another two years, we should see internet over TV, HDTV facilities etc on IPTV at a lesser cost than Satellite TV. Even though I don’t know as to how long PEO would take to introduce these services, eventually, they will have to due to competition.
6. Triple play convenience is another factor. The telephone, internet and pay TV is charged in one single bill and payable at once.
7. Time shift is an interesting feature even though at the moment the facility is limited. I can watch news and stuff I would otherwise miss on the local channels. These days, it is very useful.
However, there are a number of drawbacks which you need to pay attention to.
1. Even though there are interesting lineup of channels, few important channels such as AXN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and BBC Entertainment are missing.
2. Sometimes the set top box gives out a massage “Waiting for Signal” and tends to get stuck. This does not happen in a real problematic manner in my house and my parent’s house (both shifted from DTV to PEO). But I have heard a number of stories that this is a serious problem. You better get these technical issues cleared by SLT technicians before going for PEO.
3. PEO guys can expand the current movie library (of just few movies) to provide more video on demand content. I have finished all the movies and tele dramas there long time back. Hope they would update it sooner.
4. They say ADSL internet becomes faster but I did not notice any such improvement in Internet speed.
5. These guys are slow to act on customer comments. For instance customers have been demanding for more channels and for more contents on VoD. The improvement has not been satisfactory. PEO guys were talking about access to internet (can watch Youtube contents on TV) and learning facilities through PEO. The developments are slow on these fronts too.
6. The set top box provided does not have a HDMI output. As a result for HD content, you need a new set top box. Further, if you are watching 16:9 TV (Plasma or LCD) instead of 4:3 TV (CRT), there are no ways to adjust the size of the picture through set top box (I think this is the same with DTV).
7. I don’t think this is cheaper. But as the operating costs are lower, this tends to be cheaper in the future. Hope for the best!
I guess that’s all I can think right now. I am not unhappy at all on my decision to shift to PEO. But PEO could be better and I really hope they would. Please consider these factors and any other you think would be important before committing for PEO.
@deshal
thanx for the informative answer. i have applied for an IPTV connection in the last week of December, and now it is the second week of January. I'm yet to get a call from SLT.
I called them, and they said that my connection was entered into the system, and the technical team will call soon, but yet here I am....
the Fox channel (no. 1 channel in the US) has now begun broadcasting in asia!!! www.foxtvasia.com This is by far the best entertainment channel and is the owner of shows like american idol, moment of truth en simposons!!! PEO TV MUST ADD THIS CHANNEL BEFORE DTV DOES. OF PEO GETS THIS CHANNEL, the customer base will rapodly incrrease!
Would be nice if peo tv add Cartoon Network and AXN into their channel listings.....
Set up box how to activate the usb port
i just got the PEO TV. Line is not working well. I'm from Matara town area. Hope they will make adjustments asap.
is PEO cheating its customers?????
no new channels after life tv... and that also test transmission...
please improve the service standard asap. My line is always "page not found" The shifting among channal is very slow and not smooth. Please provide a proper FAV manu. We need to access FAV quickly. If not there is no meaning of making a FAV menu.
admin plz update the blog. any new news???
wt will channel 75 be????
any idea what the new SW upgrade is about?
is it just to add the new channels or will there be an increase in performance?
COLOR BARS ARE APPEARING ON SET MAX FROM THIS EVENING AND IPL MATCHES ARE NOT BEEN SHOWN.... WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CHANNEL OR SLT ( AS USUAL) ???? SLT SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO REPLACE THE TELECAST ASAP...
They are advertising for Time shift facility for SONY MAX channel.
May be, they will telecast it in another time & not LIVE. Ha..Ha..Ha...
