Peo TV has launched "Ten Sports" and is also broadcasting religious channel"The Buddhist" which was available only on Dialog TV.
In addition the channel "Nick" which is available on Hindi on operators such as Dialog TV is fully English on PEO TV. This is indeed a big bonus for PEO since this is a constant complain that Dialog TV subscribers make.
Please keep us updated on the latest on PEO TV as the days progress.

" Hope the biggest differentiator would be VOD. But very little content at present. They are wasting time'
There was a promotion in WTC and a stall PEO TV was there today. I can really say Dialog TV and Dish TV (this is what I use) are far better when it comes to the picture quality..
It says that if you have Component output, you get better quality, but in this case, no difference from the usual AV input.
Their pictures are very dull and the refresh rate is very low. I just felt like I am watching a youtube video in full screen mode.
Without any doubts, I can say this doesn't worth the money that we spend.
I heard Airtel has just got the approval from TRC to start IPTV as well as satellite TV in Sri Lanka and they uses MPEG4, this may be a good deal...but we have to wait and see.
What we need is a less costly service, unlike Dialog TV who charges 2100+ for the full package..
@sumzy
peotv picture quality is much much better than dialog.dialog quality is very poor. also it is significantly better than dish tv. its stable in rain. no fade. some buffering is there. but pictures are super quality. but local channels picture quality is not that goog.
i agree with you on cost issue. its not worth for money, not because of quality but because of less channels
PEO picture quality is on par with the MPEG4 decoder DTV gave free of charge last month. Dialog currently offers better collection of channels (even with the lineup PEO has). There are lot of things peo has to improve including the volume sync, lineup, cost, EPG, vod etc. etc. - as of now!!!
PEO has a long way to go, speacialy in the cost factor. They are very slow in improving the defects. Hope they will give a good competition to Dialog tv in the very near future.
I saw this on a 32" LCD TV. Picture quality was too bad at least now..They might have a great future if they can improve in a short time period.
And when I talked to the sales agent, he told me that they have a HDTV decoder (which support SDTV as well) which they will distribute upon request for an additional price. This is still in testing phase it seems. May be the picture quality is better with this
Does any one know, when PEO is planning to introduce the line-up for real, as far as I can remember 'the buddhist' and 'ten sports' were not there in the lineup. I don't believe promises after what i've been through with comet cable - going digital - I was a comet subscriber since 2000.

At the moment, PEO TV is very expensive. And they are charging additional 600/- for VOD and VOS id the most user attractive feature in PEO TV. I dont know about new customers, BUT with this kinda poor channel line up plus high tariff structure, theres' no way of getting DTV customers to their side.
@elvis
you are totally correct. either they have to increase channels or have to atleast half the cost. otherwise no future!
peotv has updated there software. i see lot of new stuff. games.. interact tv. astrology.. ect ect
@ AL
EVERYTHING EXCEPT CHANNELS!
i got a reply to my mail sayn dat star cricket, espn, star sports, star world and star movies wil be added within this month.
Still they didnt disconnect the test line. Iam also waiting til they add the new channels to decide whther to pay confirm it.
Guys,
Do you have any news on Peo adding Nat Geo. No confirmation but it works
Do you have any nesw on PeoTV comming to Negombo?
Negombo is listed as ADSL available. So no reason why Peo should not be available. Call the Ja-ela teleshop or SLT hotline and check.
NatGEO and NatGEO adventure are both online. The response time of the remote control has improved after the auto firmware upgrades last couple of days. Good show. Hope PEO would introduce more channels soon, so that we can stick with it.
Umesh
Thanks for the information. Do i have to have ADSL to get PeoTV. I dont want to use Internet at home. If so, Do they charge additionally fro it.
Peo TV is available in Negombo and you don't need to pay additional charges for ADSL if you are only interested in watching TV.
If you need to have ADSL (Broadband Internet) services with your Peo TV connection at the same time, then you may have to pay some extra money as installation fee and monthly rental.
Usually the Peo TV installtion charges include the cost for ADSL installation + for the ADSL router (which they are providing)
Sumzy,
Thanks for your information and I got the connection yesterday. I dont have to pay for ADSL and Technicians who installed said that with the router they gave with PEO connection could be used for the Internet if i wish. Sales people didnt day anything about National Geographic,Adventure, Discovery, Travel & Living and all of them are working fine. Feels a good deal
There is a seosonal offer until 31st December advertised in PEOTV web site.

Hi Chandi,
Could you please let us know following details about PEO TV
1. How is the picture quality/refresh rate
2. Details of your TV (size, LCD, Plasma or Standard CRT)
I am in Negombo and I need to know how this is doing as I am interested in getting this with the new offer.
Sumzy,
I have a notmal CRT 21 inch and Picture quality is OK for me. I do not have any other Cable TV experience to compare and Local channels are much better than what i had. But check whether Negombo is covered as I have a 0112 number
ya there nothing on TSTV and VOD has few music videos and some local educational videos ... there is option you can send email to other Peotv users. i manage to send message to one my friend STB but only numbers still he or me couldn't figure out how to type words.
most of the features are activated but not user friendly .. screen alignment is off . couldn't find the some of buttons on screen.
Al,
Tell me how to send SMS. Did you try the Astrology part. How is the results?
i dont think its sms..there was option to send message to phones but that didnt work. but manage to send message to another set top box. type the entire phone number in to send item box . 0112XXXXX like that and try.. didnt check astrology stuff :)
Al & Chandi,
How do you know that your message is deleivered to the receiver? Hope they will improve it to input text. Match making would be a killer application? Do you know the chargers for the reports? Is there a method to print the reports?
cos i sent message to my friend and he sent message to me .. last night and morning no iptv. there menu system works but no live tv. 2 more channels been added discovery and travel.
I just check the PEO Tv web site, they have put TEN SPORTS under basic package.
Still they do not add ANIMAL PLANNET channels.
Also, they don't have any TAMIL CHANNELS. Why?

Sri Lanka Telecom profits fall 31-pct in Sept quarter
Nov 28, 2008 (LBO) – Profits of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) group, the island's largest fixed access carrier, fell 31 percent to 1,235 million rupees with revenues growing 4 percent to 11,691 million in the quarter ended September 2008.
The stand alone fixed access unit, which excludes the cellular subsidiary Mobitel, saw profits fall 45 percent to 993 million rupees, indicating that the bulk of the balance consolidated profits came from the celco, analysts said.
In the 9-months to September group profits were 4,339 million rupees, flat from 4,335 million rupees in the same period last year, interim accounts filed with the Colombo Stock Exchange showed.
Revenues for the nine months were up 10 percent to 35 billion rupees from 31.9 billion rupees. The firm's top line was hurt by a court order which asked it to reverse a tariff increase.
SLT is an affiliate of Malaysia's UT group, though still majority controlled by the government of Sri Lanka.
SLT said it had invested one billion rupees in Mobitel through 10 rupee 12 percent cumulative preference shares and 500 million rupees through 14 percent preference shares, in the latest accounting period.
SLT had invested 107.9 million rupees in Sky Networks (Pvt) Ltd in which it had a 75 percent shareholding.
TV producer says Dialog TV ran tele-drama without permission
By Natasha Gunaratne
A Sri Lankan television producer and actor has filed an intellectual property rights case against a television station airing his teledrama without proper licensing and violating the Intellectual Property Act and is asking for Rs.3.5 million as compensation.
The plaintiff, Glenroy Anthony Soysa, more popularly known as Tony Soysa, filed his case in the High Court of the Western Province against Dialog Television (Pvt) LTD and Onair World Ceylon (Private) Ltd.
According to court documents, Mr. Soysa spent Rs.1.3 million of his own money in funding the entire production of a teledrama called 'Bambara Asapuwa'.
The Plaintiff stated that the teledrama constitutes an 'audiovisual work' in terms of the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003 and the ownership of the economic rights, including the broadcasting rights, in respect of the said teledrama, are vested in the Plaintiff as the Producer thereof, as specifically provided for in Section 14(5) of the said Act, and as such, the Plaintiff's said right(s) in the teledrama "Bambara Asapuwa", are protected under the said Act.
In or around January 1993, the Plaintiff entered into an agreement with the owners/operators of MTV television channel in Sri Lanka, which is part of the Maharaja Organization, in order to license, inter alia, the broadcasting/telecasting rights in respect of the said teledrama to the owners/operators of the said MTV channel for a period of two years at the rate of Rs. 55,000 per episode. Upon the expiry of the two-year period, the master tapes of the teledrama were returned to the plaintiff by MTV.
The Plaintiff states that thereafter, he has not licensed and/or assigned and/or transferred and/or alienated the copyright and/or economic rights in respect of the said teledrama in any manner, to any other person up to date but that the master tapes were given to the stations by the person he had entrusted to safeguard them.
An eye Opener for all TV Operators....

Friend,
The inside information is that Airtel will initially launch only GSM service not a 3G network. They do not have the required transport network to cater for 3G traffic. For some times only Mobitel and Dialog will have 3G competition

When do we get Star package from from PeoTV
I'm intending to get a payed TV service. Currently I have 2 Options.
Dialog TV & PEO/IPTV
Which one is better, in terms of
1) Quality
2) Cost
3) Channel line up
In PEO TV, do we have to pay for additional channels? [even under new promotion of 2 units in the cost of 1]
I can go maximum up to Rs. 1,500/= per month.
Can someone please provide me some good answer!!!
To PEO management
Guys before you make any kind of promotion please make your web site user friendly way. It is too slow to load, can't see any avilable packages. I think someone who is doing his final year IT project did this useless web site or one of the brainless manager's innovative idea.
IPTV,
you're wrong. Airtel have already launched their 3G network. Do a network search from your 3G mobile or broadband modem. you'll see SRI05 (2G)(3G) or SRI AIRTEL (2G)(3G). that's their network.
chandi,
i called them in the morning today. they told me that star package should appear on screen by today evening. it will include star movies, star world & some other star channel (can't remember the name exactly). then i asked about star sports. they said it's coming under a different company (ESPN) with ESPN, star sports & star cricket. it will be added by end of this month or in the beginning of january as they told me.
lakshitha,
according to my knowledge you'll get all the channels in their "base package" when you buy a new connection. plus you can select 10 channels from the "al-a-carte" menu. but if u want to get more than 10 then you'll have to pay separately for those channels. (between Rs25-50 per channel)
sinha,
i think you're experiencing this slowness due to the international submarine cable failure which occurred last friday. other than that there's nothing wrong with iptv website. you can view all the available channels & packages in their site. go to www.peotv.com, click "what's on peo" & select "channel lineup". currently their having only 1 package (base pkg).
@Lakshitha,
Please give your e-mail address to give some clues regarding your pay tv server.
I have the same question that Lakshitha asked!
I'm also having a budget that can go up to maximum Rs. 1,500/=
Currently I have SLT Home Express Broadband package. I'm OK with SLT's internet service provision.
I got the chance witness the SLT PEO TV. Local Channel quality is not good at all. Even international channels also not satisfactory. How do i say it? Better than You Tube!!
On the other hand Dialog TV seems to be OK. (One of my friend has one) But the IPTV technology is the future....right!!! I'm now bit confused!!
Guys, please suggest me on above!! for which service i should go? in terms of quality, cost & channel line up.
no star channels till yesterday... anyone else can confirm this ??
