Star Cricket not working on PEO TV

Subscribers are complaining that Star Cricket has not been working on PEO TV for several days now amidst rising concerns that the channel may have been disconnected due to nonpayment by PEO TV to the channel provider. The same thing happened back in 2010 with SET Max due to internal problems at PEO TV.

We hope PEO TV sorts out what the problem is and restore the channel back to their subscribers.

Raj channels added

After a lapse of several months of relative quietness, PEO TV have done some channel additions namely the Raj Television bouquet channels Raj TV, Raj Digital Plus & Raj Musix.

This is indeed a step in the right direction and far better than adding local channels & we hope that the trend continues with more channels being added frequently. Hopefully things don't come to a standstill and channels such as "SETANTA", "AXN", "SUN TV", etc are added in the very near future.

New channels on PEO TV but they are local FTA Maharaja ones

Some pay television networks never get the business model of running a Pay TV service, they take it for granted that people will pay high subscription fees for any channel that they show. Sadly that's what at least PEO TV in Sri Lanka seems to think since they have quite number of local FTA channels compared to the actual international pay channels.

Sources tell us that a network of channels that once upon a time carried advertisements saying that they will not be made available on any pay television network & also mocked at the idea of pay television in Sri Lanka several years ago in a newspaper article. Yes, we are talking about the Maharaja channels Sirasa TV, Shakthi TV & Channel One MTV, which have now been added to PEO TV on channel slots 10,11 & 12 according to our sources.

Looks like a giant of local media industry has been humbled, changed their opinion, finally accepted the fact & had a drastic change in policy. Whilst this is a commendable decision by MTV/MBC to hop aboard a pay television network this is however not good for PEO TV.

PEO TV should take immediate steps to increase the number of pay television channels rather than filling themselves up with FTA ones. Channels like AXN & Setanta, etc are a must on the platform and unless they are capable of providing their subscribers with these, things don't look good for PEO TV.

An Invitation to PEO TV

Subscriber dissatisfaction is on the rise among PEO TV subscribers over the common "Waiting for signal" problem that hasn't been resolved as yet. The slow and now almost non existent rate of adding new channels. It's closest competitors being Dialog TV and LBN. With more coverage than LBN & more capacity to add new channels compared to Dialog TV, PEO is not making use of these advantages.

Many channels such as those from AXN, Setanta, Ten Action & Tamil channels would prove to be a revenue earner for SLT. Sadly it seems that PEO is just not interested and doesn't have the knowledge of the channels required to be run on their pay television network.

We hereby issue a formal invitation to the management of PEO TV to interact with their subsribers on this blog & move forward to improve their channel offerings and gain top spot as Sri Lanka's No 1 pay television company.

It's time to wake this giant up from a couple of years of hibernation.

PEO TV adopts SLT style logo

After the take over of PEO TV management by SLT. PEO TV have changed their logo in order to identify themselves more with SLT.

We hope that the change does not end with the logo change and it would be more progressive by adding new channels which appeal to the subscriber. Sadly at the moment PEO TV cannot match the other pay television companies in terms of channels. Complaints about broadcast quality and "waiting for signal" errors are causing frustration among subscribers.

PEO TV can easily overcome competition posed by providers liked Dialog TV if they get their act together as the technology that they posses is far more sophisticated than Dialog TV.

PEO - Setanta Negotiations continuing

PEO TV is continuing negotiations with "Setanta Sports" to get the channel on its network. At present only LBN have been successful, the Dialog TV & Setanta negotiations have broken down so PEO are with an advantage of luring die hard rugby fans who are out of LBN coverage areas away from Dialog TV if they can secure this deal.

PEO missed a golden opportunity to lure disgruntled Dialog subscribers & Zee TV fans over the removal of Zee TV and get them on PEO if they had the brains to secure a deal with Zee TV on time. Now PEO management can kick themselves because Dialog have relaunched Zee TV. So thats one missed opportunity now here is another opportunity.

At the end of the day lets see whether the PEO management will end up rejoicing or kicking themselves again.

SLT Vision Com to be disbanded & SLT to take full control of PEO

Three years after its launch & allegations of mismanagement & bribery by its CEO, SLT Vision Com is to be disbanded & SLT is to take full control of PEO TV. It seems the CEO Thushara Weerasooriya has been paying high fees to middlemen to acquire broadcasting rights for foreign channels and failed to secure many channels. After a reexamination of the IPTV investment SLT have decided to take full control of their venture which has put a burden on SLT's operational costs.

We hope that SLT management will take steps to add more foreign channels since it seems that the present Vision Com CEO seems to have made a lot of money by ways of bribes & concentrating more on paying money for people to start local channels to be added to PEO TV.

Neo Cricket. Neo Sports & Australia Network now added

After a spate of adding local channels PEO TV has added Neo Cricket, Neo Sports & Australia Network. Wedding TV has been removed as a result of this, but since no one hardly watches the channel, it should not be a problem.

We hope the additions will continue and PEO TV will ramp up their lineup of channels. With this addition all sports channels except for Ten Action will be on PEO TV. We hope that they add Ten Action soon and become the network with the entire selection of sports channels. Dialog which carries Ten Action is rumored to drop the channel in favour of Ten Cricket. So PEO TV will become the premiere network for sports once they add Ten Action.

Ten Cricket added, Euro Sport News removed

PEO TV have done a great job of adding Ten Cricket to their lineup but they have done it by removing Euro Sport News.

Ten Cricket will be carrying all of the Ten Sports cricketing content and is a channel that should be available on all pay television platforms. Now PEO TV is an IPTV platform and they do not have any capacity issues. If there is a capacity issue then PEO should have removed some of the third grade channels that they carry instead of removing Euro Sport News.

We hope the management of PEO reintroduce Euro Sport News once again.

Prime TV added

Hurrah PEO TV has added yet another FTA channel. PEO TV seems to be becoming a pay operator of FTA channels. With so much of an advantage over the existing operators in Sri Lanka, PEO does not have bandwidth issues, etc they still cannot seem to be make good use of their infrastructure. It seems that SLT started PEO TV just to show the world that they are operating a Pay Television IPTV network.

Sri Lanka is behind a majority of the world in terms of pay tv. We are way behind when compared to our big brother India. In terms of channel lineup, PEO TV is behind Dialog TV but now is the chance for them to narrow the gap. Ten Cricket is launching on Aug 10th, 2010. DTV does not have transponder capacity to add the channel but PEO TV does not have such a problem. They have more than enough capacity, which then leaves the nagging question of what they are doing with all that space.

So SLT management we have woken up, now you have to wake up and add this channel on Aug 10th & show that you mean business in the pay television industry in sri lanka.

PEO TV cheating subscribers

Potential subscribers & existing susbcribers are being cheated by PEO TV by printing channels such as FX, Fox Crime & Animal Planet but eventually not adding those channels. Recent brochures of PEO TV have carried the said channels but ultimately these channels were not added.

PEO TV have been adding locally operated FTA channels. As a pay television operator they should add Pay channels & provide the standard bouquet of pay channels. PEO has still a long way to go to get their channel base on par with a standard pay television operator. Channels such as AXN, Animal Planet, Neo, ect which are standard are still missing from the PEO lineup.

PEO management it is time to get up from your deep slumber.

IPL returns

As of last saturday, IPL has returned to PEO TV on SET Max. We hope there will not be any more interruptions to the IPL broadcast hereafter & all problems have been resolved.

We hope PEO TV takes immediate steps to add channels such as AXN, Hallmark, ect.

SET Max returns to PEO TV minus IPL

SET Max has returned to PEO TV minus IPL as of last night. We believe that PEO TV is telecasting the Asian feed which does not telecast IPL. Only the Indian feed of SET Max telecasts IPL. We are not sure why PEO TV has taken this decision. May be they have not obtained approval from SET Max for Time Shift TV for IPL matches, but then they could telecast the matches and cancel the facility for the IPL tournament.

Whatever the problem, these should have been sorted before IPL started. It looks like PEO TV staff are as lethargic as the SLT staff.

We hope PEO TV sorts these problems and IPL returns to PEO TV soon.

SET Max off air on PEO TV

With effect from last night SET Max is off air on PEO TV and has been replaced by coloured bars. This has resulted in several subscribers missing out on the IPL matches being played in India. PEO TV recently carried out some advertising on local newspapers regarding the availability of IPL on their network via SET Max with Time Shift facility. We hope that whatever the problem is that it will rectified soon since several subscribers are now missing out on this live telecast.

We hope that once this problem is sorted out, it will not be repeated again and any maintenance required will be carried out after the conclusion of the IPL tournament.

Star World on TSTV and more information

As of Saturday, we are receiving reports that "Star World" is now available on PEO TV with the Time Shift TV feature. This is indeed a great move by PEO as this will enable people to watch missed programmes several hours later.

In addition we are getting reports that Star Vijay has been replaced by Vasantham TV. If this is certainly the case then the logic behind this move is puzzling. After all replacing a International Tamil channel with a local Tamil channel is a bizarre move.

We are also receiving complaints about the quality of local channels over PEO TV. We hope that PEO Technical staff takes measures to improve the quality of the local channels.

PEO TV please remove logo from screen

We are receiving complaints from many PEO TV subscribers about the poorly designed logo that sits on the television screen. Now PEO can argue that mostly all DTH operators and IPTV operators have logo's on screen to prevent piracy but the placement of the logo is of utmost importance. Dish TV India has a small translucent logo on the bottom right hand corner. Even Dialog TV has a small translucent logo on the bottom right hand corner. However it looks like PEO logo is just too distracting. PEO should take steps to redesign the logo and place it in a proper or take off the logo all together.

In addition we are getting complaints of texts being scrolled during television programmes and we hope PEO refrains from such activity. If they want to earn some extra money by inserting a few advertisements which will enable them to turn a profit and reduce rental then please go ahead and do it but not at the viewers expense. These should be done with no affect on the viewing experience. If PEO is not sure then they should not do it unless they get things right.

The STB getting stuck issue and lack of channel choices still exist on PEO. We urge the subscribers to approach PEO TV by calling them or visit their offices and pressurise them to address their grievances because this is pay television and people cannot be pushed around like in FTA television.

Star Sports & Star Cricket now on PEO TV

PEO TV have added Star Sports and Star Cricket to their lineup of channels. ESPN is still not available but it will be only a matter of time until ESPN is also added. According to unconfirmed sources these channels are available only on the A-la-carte menu at Rs 125/= per channel. Totalling upto Rs 250/= and when ESPN also comes in it may be another Rs 125/= for the channel. We believe that these channels should be allocated to either their Platinum, Gold or Silver packages. Rs 125/= for one of these channels may prevent subscribers from subscribing to these channels. If PEO TV is looking at beating the competition they should consider options that will promote these connections. PEO TV does not incur the overheads that these DTH operators have and it is sad to see that even without these overheads their subscriptions rates are still very high.

We hope that the management of PEO TV takes steps to add Star Sports & Cricket to one of their packages and reduce the a-la-carte prices.

"No Rain Fade" but all other problems exist

We are receiving several complaints from PEO TV subscribers regarding the problems. Even though PEO does not have the famous "Rain Fade" problem (occurs only during bad weather) that they so proudly boast of about. They are plagued by other problems such as "Waiting Signal", "Stuck STB" and severe pixelation which can occur regardless of the weather. Not everyone may be having all these problems but the most common such as "Waiting Signal" & "Stuck STB" are generally common and can generally be sorted out by restarting the Router which takes several minutes and can be pain if it occurs regularly.

We hope that PEO TV sorts out these problems soon as many of the people who moved from Dialog TV to PEO are considering switching back to Dialog TV.

With the backing of a large operator such as SLT we were of the view that PEO would be a much better service. Sadly this is not to be so. It seems that the SLT infrastructure is not capable of handling a television service or they have issued connections beyond capacity. We hope that SLT sorts out these problems if they are to become a worthy competitor in the pay television market.

PEO TV get your act together...

It looks like PEO TV is concentrating on more local channel launching than international ones. That is not a bad move, if you have covered the basic international channels such as ESPN Star channels, AXN, Hallmark, Cartoon Network, ect but these are not on as yet and unless these channels come aboard PEO will have a hard time.

PEO TV is using existing infrastructure for channel delivery and do not have to spend too much money on delivery infrastructure so they must focus more on new channel additions but it seems that the management at PEO do not know this. In a few months it will be an year since PEO TV was launched and still the lack of the basic channnels will begin to have an effect on its subscriber base. PEO should also organise more packages since on the long run PEO TV seems more expensive than their rival Sri Lankan operators. The A- La - Carte should be offered with more effective packages.

Swarnavahini on PEO and YATV to be launched

PEO TV launched local FTA channel "Swarnavahini" on their base package with TSTV functions and the works included. On May 29th PEO is expected to launch "Young Asia Television" on their platform. YATV which has programming over broadcasting over other channels will be launching their television channel for the first time.

While it is much appreciated that PEO TV is launching local niche channels, PEO must take immediate steps to launch channels such as AXN, ESPN Star Sports channels, NEO channels, ect since they must cater to the needs of pay television viewers. These channels are basic among all pay networks and hopefully these are launched soon.

Lakroo to launch on PEO

Sinhala language channel Lakroo will launch on PEO TV with effect from April 5th. The channel is being launched by the National Film Corporation in partnership with SLT. This channel is expected to have full access to the NFC library of films and is expected to be better than the Citi Hitz channel on Dialog TV. SET & SET Max added

Peo TV has added SET & SET Max channels with effect from yesterday. SET Max is available with the Time Shifting feature. We are not sure whether the channels will be added to the base package or whether it will be available on "A-La Carte" basis.

Both channels are what usually referred to in Sri Lanka as "hindi crap" but SET Max also telecasts cricket so it is less of a crap than SET.

We feel that SLT should have also got SET Pix since in addition to being a English Movie channel also telecasts the FA Cup for this region.

So far SLT have not added ESPN Star Sports channels, however the addition of these channels will be greatly beneficial for PEO TV.

Ten Sports, Nick English & The Buddhist

Peo TV has launched "Ten Sports" and is also broadcasting religious channel"The Buddhist" which was available only on Dialog TV.

In addition the channel "Nick" which is available on Hindi on operators such as Dialog TV is fully English on PEO TV. This is indeed a big bonus for PEO since this is a constant complain that Dialog TV subscribers make.

PEO TV - too expensive

With their present strategy PEO TV will end up being more expensive than DTH service provider Dialog TV once they have all the channels available on Dialog TV also. This is because after the 14 base channels all other channels will cost Rs 50/= each. Since the IPTV operational costs are lower we believe that they carry out a more competitive offering. In addition the fact that you have to acquire an SLT fixed line is another minus point however since it is operated via SLT fixed lines this is a limitation of the service.

PEO TV is causing minimum impact on the pay television market and any impact it has caused is not due to aggressive tactics by SLT but rather the foolishness of the other operators.

PEO TV Launched

PEO TV the IPTV pay television platform by SLT was officially launched yesterday (Sep 22nd 2008) at the Cinnamon Grand.

At present package and installation rates are not yet available and according to sources the information should be available by the end of this month. PEO TV is operated by SLT Visioncom a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom.

PEO TV subscribers are welcome to use this blog to discuss issues related to PEO television service and we will bring you the latest news about PEO and we hope that PEO subscribers will use this blog to share information and update us with the latest on PEO TV.
